Dazu is the first stop of Yuan Longping's work.
From the end of 1951 to the beginning of 1952, Academician Yuan Longping worked in 17 villages (now Lianhua Village) of Xinshi Township, Wangu District, Dazu for more than three months, and formed a deep friendship with the local people. At that time, the villagers called him 'Yuan Daxue'.
In 1951, the "land reform" was in full swing, but there were not even a few literate people in the village, and it was difficult to carry out the work. At this time, Yuan Longping, a member of the "land reform" work guidance group, came to the village for an internship, and his main work was to collect statistics and make all kinds of tables and books to prepare for the "land reform". Yuan Longping is the best scholar in the whole village, and everyone asks Yuan University students for advice. Although the objective working environment is difficult, Yuan Longping is very modest, smiling and answering questions for everyone, coupled with his serious and diligent work, the people in the village like him.
During Yuan Longping's work in Dazu, he lived and ate in the house of Yun Hailiang, a villager who was only about 200 meters away from the Lotus Nunnery, and had to pay 5 cents a day for food. At that time, supplies were scarce, and he often did not have enough to eat, and sometimes he could only eat one meal a day, but he never asked for anything.
